Facebook adds real-time news ‘ticker’

Social networking giant Facebook is redesigning the home page’s news feeds to surface more information that matters to its users.

As Google+ and Facebook step up their competition, Facebook will be soon rolling out an updated version of News Feed that gives priority to important posts.

After the latest update, users will see the top photos and status updates since they logged in, and if users log in several times a day, they will see more recent news.

According to Mark Tonkelowitz, an engineering manager at Facebook, ‘news feeds will now act more like users’ own personal newspapers.’

According to the Los Angeles Times, Facebook is also introducing a real-time “ticker” that streams your friends'' most recent activity and encourages you to chat with them about it.

“Ticker shows you the same stuff you were already seeing on Facebook, but it brings your conversations to life by displaying updates instantaneously,” Tonkelowitz wrote in his blog post.
