It's official: Women cry more than men

Men knew it all along. And now a new study has made it official: women shed tears more often than blokes, for longer, and in a more dramatic way. Woman crying

In the study, the German Society of Ophthalmology found that women cry on average between 30 and 64 times a year whereas men cry just six to 17 times during the same period, reports The Telegraph.

From analyses, boffins found that men tend to cry for between two and four minutes, but for women, sessions last around six minutes. And in 65 per cent of cases the crying episode turns into a full-blown sobbing session, compared to just six per cent for males. However, up until 13, there is no difference when it comes to waterworks "showing that blubbing because of joy, sadness or anger is something that is learned," the boffins claimed.

As for the reasons for bawling, the paper found that females cry when they feel inadequate, when they are confronted by situations that are difficult to resolve or when they remember past events.

In case of men, they tend to cry from empathy or when a relationship fails.
